Anonymous asked: what's your sexual orientation?
I believe that for some people sexual orientation is not static. I believe for some people, it can change over the years due to experience and waxing and waning attractions or you can choose to use a certain label when you’re with a particular partner. I consider myself to be one of these people. I came out as bisexual in high school, then later labelled myself as lesbian when I had absolutely no interest in dating men whatsoever, plus it made my first girlfriend’s friends accept me more (The gay community in the city I currently live in is not very accepting of bisexuals). I haven’t used a label to describe my sexual attractions in a while now, and I think I’m going to keep it that way. I’ve been asked why don’t I just label myself as pansexual then but I’m learning that life is much better when it is not constrained by labels and binary and imaginary boxes.
I’ve been with a male partner now for almost 3 years, so some people may label me as straight and I guess that’s their prerogative—it’s heterosexist but people are going to do it. I’m very open about my sexuality and those who know me well know that I don’t lean one way or another. I love who I love and am not going to label love when I feel that it is transcendental.
Thank you so much for your question :)
